Second Guardians of the Galaxy Preview

Other then being aware of Rocket Racoon, I’m not familar with this galactic group like general audiences are aswell as seen their appearence in Avengers: Earth’s Mightest Heroes in the Korvac (underwhelmed by The Saga) episode. Vance Astro aka Major Victory was a founder member in the sixties run of the comic which I found out later. I personally intented to read the first volume of Brian Michael Bendis’ take before the film comes out two months from now since that’s the incarnation of the team Marvel Studios is adapting from.

Zoe Saldana said she’s fortunate to not play roles that aren’t stereotypical during the making of Star Trek ’09. Unless you count the undressing scene (which got gratuitous in the sequel), whiplashing your former teacher/bitch to get what you what, arguing in the middle of an important mission. Even in this trailer alone, there isn’t any exception with Gamora. We get a call of attention to gender, an ass shot followed by a topless frame, icing it off with a catfight with the disallusioned daughter of Thanos, Nebula.

Ronan the Accuser appears-to-be the one Fantastic Four villain they got the rights back from Fix since reports about Silver Surfer along with Galactus supposedly didn’t revert. The purple gem alias Space Gem that allows it’s user multiple transportation abilites is going to play a huge role for an invasion by the Kree Empire. Maybe foreshadow Adam Warlock’s usage of it since his larva stage appearance in the after-credit scene to Loki: featuring Thor. Hopefully it’s used better story-wise then the Power Gem/Aether/Deus Ex Machina in that movie.

    The Flash Trailer

An advertisement for the Scarlet Speedster’s spin-off aired during Arrow’s season finale. Disappointed at first because I felt cheated again by The CW but then realized patience is a virtue.

John Wesley Shipp playing the wrongly accused father makes sense especially since Grant Gustin and him look-a-like which debunks my previous speculations that he could’ve been Jay Garrick (the speedster before Barry) or maybe his future self in a Star Trek ’09 fashion since he’s wearing a red sweatshirt on-set. Wally West/Kid Flash or Barry Allen’s future grandson, Bart/Impulse could possibly show up farther down-the-line considering time-travel is going to be apparent. Plus Wally’s yet to be love interest/wife, Linda Park appeared at the end of “Three Ghosts” when the Particle Accelerator malfunctioned.

Barry working with Star Labs to uncover his abilites’ extences bares the same structure as the nineties series. Catlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) who becomes Killer Frost along with Francisco Ramon aka Vibe (Carlos Valdes) could fall into off-putters like that “duo” in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. whiched I’ve stopped watching after the first couple of episodes in the first season (Syke..ugh).

Iris West (Candice Patton) working at a coffee shop instead of interning at a news outlet echoes an insecured girl that converted into a walking pile of angst then selfishness ever put on television. At least Barry already assists the Central City Police Department’s Crime Lab.

Clyde Mardon (Chad Rook) controlling climates means either he becomes Weather Wizard or the producers are possibly setting up his brother, Mark to harness the power. Thought they’d pick someone like Captain Cold for the first incident but it shows TPB (The Powers That Be) aren’t afraid to take big chances but I’ve noticed the network’s budget got much bigger then it used to be four years ago.

I’ll be happy as long as Geoff Johns (writer for the pilot) doesn’t pull a twist like his god-awful Flashpoint storyline where adult Barry preventing his mother’s death in place of Reverse Flash shown here.

    First Look at The Batfleck

Zack Synder posted on his Twitter account a glimpse of Affleck in the suit along with a full reveal of the new Batmobile.

    3hRU6px

Not surprising the filmmakers went with the Returns/Misses Again look. This only confirms one of the many fears I’ve had since the reading at Comic Con, casting, executives at Warner Bros. saying he’ll be old, tired, aswell as seasoned to rumored Bat-Drones taking the fascism from the last film up to new heights. The Massachusetts native is playing completely-off-his-rocker senior who declares martial law on his own city in additon getting a corrupt American general to kill himself (Swanwick is in trouble) cause that’s hero material. They better not have his car cut another vehicle in half.

Henry Cavill’s Superman won’t call Bat-God out on any insane thing he does because of the over-simplifaction that drives me up the wall. Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman outfit has the possiblity of looking like this (scary thought) especially since Synder directed 300.

    Gotham Trailer

The extended preview for Fix’s upcoming series has been released since that teaser to the trailer kinda dumb.

This series is being produced by Danny Cannon who worked on the CSI programs including Miami which featured Horatio Caine’s infamous one linersPretentious much?

I’m all for a show focusing on the supporting characters especially since the main one’s overexposure would keep my interest. Besides, this is probably the closet thing to a Central-type run we’re gonna get. Ben McKenzie (The O.C.) voiced The Caped Crusader in the Year One animated film with Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) as Gordon being an interesting note. Weird Jim is younger then Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) as opposed to the other way around but no biggie.

Bette Kane (Sara Paxton), the Batgirl before Barbara later revamped to Flamebird appearing could be funny if down-the-line either one existing before The Dork Knight. Renee Montoya (Victoria Cartagena) along with Crispus Allen (Andrew Stewart-Jones) will be included aswell. Hopefully the former Metropolis citizen isn’t a whiner like in the “Crossfire” vignette from Gotham Knight.

However, Jim having a romantic fling with someone who used to be much younger really creepy. Instead of Clare Foley (Sinister) playing a young Pamela Isley, the yet to come Poison Ivy’s last name is Pepper…really? She has a sibling now named Mario, okay I guess. Please don’t make Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) the prostitute again like Nolan’s last outing. I’d rather them have her be Falcone’s daughter (like Long Halloween) or somebody else.

The Ex-Mrs. Smith is going to be the weakest leak just by her wardrobe in this preview alone as if the name Fish Mooney wasn’t bad enough. Made-up characters in pre-existing material doesn’t work with Harley Quinn in the DCAU being the only exception to that rule. With any luck (if any) Copplepott (Robin Taylor) kills her at the end of the season becoming the new crime boss.

Nieuw Rotterdam (Gotham’s Dutch name apparently) never has nor ever will overcome corruption, it’s stagnant which makes Jimbo’s speech about there being light meaningless considering how things turn out later being my biggest problem with the Bat-Universe in general.

    Batfleck and Drones

I’ve been silent since the DC film announcement was made at Comic Con last year for good reason.

Batman is the most overrated and overexposed character ever. I can’t take the whole Dark Knight thing seriously anymore because it’s become a parody in itself. Find Brave and the Bold to be more tolerable. Supporting cast like Barbara Gordon, Leslie Thompkins, Commissioner Gordon, etc to be more interesting personalities which makes me kinda look forward to that Gotham series on Fox (how did they pull that deal?). Richard Grayson aka Nightwing (Secret Agent now…ugh) is a much better personality then Bruce Wayne because he’s not paranoid nor over-obsessive which leads into this bigger problem.

Ben Affleck casted in the role of Dork Knight is going to be The Red Barren that shoots the Flying Ace out of the sky. He acted bored through-out that overrated film, Argo honestly. Maybe the exhaustion pulling double-duty directing/acting got to him like Leonard Nimoy described his sixth experience wretching aswell as painful in-the-making of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Ego will probably go to Affleck’s head since his Oscar win for said movie similar to Hally Berry’s swollen cranium had in destroying a franchise besides it being Wolverine-centric everytime (which is still going). Frank Fuller (Miller) being involved dare to confess another punch-to-the-gut. Every man is a psychopath with every woman being a whore in his tiny little mind.

Sue Kroll of the workroom’s marketing briefly mentions a Wonder Woman movie since The Amazon Princess is included in Man of Steel‘s supposed-to-be sequel:

That is our hope. With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her.

Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious) has been used for eyecandy from what I’ve seen. She also constantly licks her lips similar to Kristen Stewart’s open mouth. I’d like to believe that’s not her fault it’s mediocre filmmakers telling her to do that. Severely dreading she’ll have the hots for The Caped Crusader like she did in JLU that isn’t much better then the Man of Tomorrow being the rebound boyfriend from her true friend/lover, Steve Trevor.

Jeremy Irons (The Lion King) selected for Alfred Pennyworth to carry on from Sir Michael Caine occured the one good thing to come out of this mess but then Michael Cera’s clone picked for Lex Luthor just shows (in their narrow mind) rehashing another on-screen Superman villian. There’s still a ton of other adversaries that haven’t been used outside the comics or television proving this realization that they’re afraid to take chances with using different rogues. BRAINIAC DAMNIT.

The production president of Warner Brothers, Greg Silverman told The Wall Street Journal, Zack Snyder will also helm Bat-God: Backdoor Spinoffs for the 2017 release.

It will be a further expansion of this universe. Superman vs. Batman will lead into Justice League.

Watchmen proved he can balance an ensemble so I-for-one don’t doubt Snyder’s abilites. However the studio are the ones calling-the-shots cause that worked so well in the past.

It’s the cynical guyinstead of the Big Blue Boyscout being the first that inspires the other heroes in the DC Universe to come out into the open. “Why not continue the tread by having Fuller’s grumpy-old schizophrenic”, since Dork Knight Declines’ existence to advertise pro-fascism. It ends with Clark conforming completely going against what the first setup or what the Last Son of Krypton is supposed to represent after he gets the infamous beatdown. Unlike Steve Rogers/Captain America who didn’t submit to that ludacrous philosophy in Winter Soldier. Or starts with Supes alrighty a government tool with the JLA either by this time/becoming instruments.

That other film is clearly going to be based on The New 52 verison (more shameless plugging like Green Lantern‘s credit-ad) with the inclusion of past-Teen Titans’ member, Victor Stone alias Cyborg. Justice League: War embodied everything I hate about Dan DiDio’s overstaying welcome. A rotten Billy Batson for no explained reason is worthy of the powers of The Old Wizard, Shazam (the alter-ego’s name now). Found Barry Allen/The Flash going fan-boy on you-know-who insulting. A Scarlet Speedster feature doesn’t seem possible anymore since their wait-and-see (cause they’re scared) policy is to see how well upcoming The CW pilot does in the ratings.

    Star Wars: Episode VII Cast

Star Wars.com has released a still and description of the main actors in addition actresses set to star in the next chapter in the galaxy far far away:

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

J.J. Abrams also had this to say:

We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.

Emperor Ming/King Osric/Father Merrin being in the movie is just pure awesomeness. A powerful speaker with his perfomance as Osric The Usurper from Conan The Barbarian which also goes for the voice of Darth Vader himself, James Earl Jones in the role of Thulsa Doom. Sadow will more then likely play the head or member of The New Republic as opposed to a Jedi or even more cooler a Sith Lord.

Serkis is an actor despite the characters he’s played were digital (Golem/King Kong/Ceaser) with some physical acts (Smeagol/Lumpy). Isaac played a scumbag in Sucker Punch so probably a bounty hunter. I’ve only seen Gleeson in Dredd where he portrayed the kid who that got his eyes ripped out by Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and replaced with cybnetics. Maybe he’s the young protagonist like Luke Skywalker in the original series so theres that coming-of-age aspect. I’ve heard good things about Boyega’s acting in Attack the Block not the Americanized version. Driver was rumored to play Nightwing in WB’s Batfleck vehicle/pre-Justice League film which thankfully didn’t happen.

However, there’s still a black cloud hovering over with this project since Abrams phoned in the last Star Trek “film”. YouTube user, Bandit Incoperated gave his thoughts on what the story for this new triliogy ought to be that blew my mind:

    Kevin Feige on Ant-Man

According to Latino Review, Empire Magazine interviewed the president of Marvel Studios about bringing Earth’s Scientific Supreme to the big screen and why he was shafted on the creation of The Avengers’ upcoming adversary, Ultron for the sequel:

It was two things – a story Edgar wanted to tell that we’ll see with Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd, and now we’re 11 films in, it’s looking at the characters we’ve already introduced who already have the technology and the brains to do…certain things [Laughs].

That last comment referring to Tony Stark being the creator like he was in that Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow animated film. Despite the things he can do on Earth’s Mightest Heroes episodes that I’ve seen (Wasp was annoying), I’m not too (no pun intended) big on this character. Dr. Raymond Palmer aka The Atom is my favorite shrinking hero. However my interest in this film has peaked my curiosity with the inclusion of Micheal Douglas (The Ghost and the Darkness) in the role of Hank Pym since I kinda wrote this movie off as just another farce waiting to happen (the Iron Man sequels). But Edgar Wright did direct Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World which were really fun aswell as entertaining.

He goes on to talk about casting Paul Rudd (Anchorman) as the second person to pick up the mantle, Scott Lang.

Look at that origin of the petty crook who comes into contact with a suit and does his best to make good, and then look at someone like Paul Rudd, who can do slightly unsavory things like break into people’s houses and still be charming and who you root for and whose redemption you will find satisfaction in.

Good to know that Scott will have that character-arc. Those other “protagonists” in Guardians of Galaxy are really going to have to prove their worth since they’re thieves (Star-Lord and Rocket-Raccoon) in addition to being murders (Gamora and Drax) accompanied by a criminal (Groot). We’re not going to care if they succeed or not if they don’t have some redeeming qualities to them (all joking aside) that will allow opportunity-for-change.

    Captain America: Winter Soldier Review

Phase 2 of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) has been mediocre, so I had severe apprehension but an incredible amount of optimism at the same time hoping that The Sentinel of Liberty’s follow-up would be the saving grace to this fiasco. I can say without a doubt it absolutely was.

The Russo Brothers (Community) really impressed me with their direction-and-execution with making this sequel an espionage spy-thriller. It reminded me about what I’ve loved about the first Metal Gear Solid game considering towards the middle an henchman fires at Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) with an M16 Vulcan cannon like Raven.

Chris Evans proves once again he is the Star-Spangled Avenger. The biggest strength of this film is how the screenwriters of it’s predecessor, Christopher Markus along with Stephen McFeely handled character relationships most notably Rogers’ new-founded friendship with Sam Wilson aka Falcon (Anthony Mackie). The actors played off each other so well delivering an even better chemistry then what Robert Downey Jr. in addition Terrence Howard had in Iron Man. Touching upon soldiers suffering from PSD after tours of duty which relates to Steve adjusting to living in modern-time added alot of gravitas. Steve’s reunion with the elder Peggy Carter (Haley Atwell) dying of Alzheimer’s hits the right emotional core. Sad because they never got their dance. Agent 13 alias Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) had more then just a cameo. She saves a S.H.I.E.L.D. technician’s life from getting shot in the back of the head for gods sake.

I personally find Bucky Barnes’ return to be the most plausible out of these infamous “coming back from the dead” scenarios unlike Jason Todd’s resurrection. Kudos to the writers adapting this storyline by Ed Brubaker. He’s a human with a cybernetic enhancement in the source material, here he’s another equal that can go toe-to-toe with Cap like Red Skull before him. When Sebastian Stan (Black Swan) comes on screen he embodies every quality he’s supposed to have. Mysterious aswell as dangerous at the same time since alot was riding on him to pull this off since he’s been minor so far. He delivers the “Who the hell is Bucky?” line in confusion rather then in cynicism like Jon Curry did in the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes episode of the same name.

Humor is back on point after being severely scribbled on the chalkboard. The Smithsonian scene where a kid recognizes Rogers then gives him the quiet hand very reminiscent of that little moment in X-Men where Cyclops smiles back a child staring at him. Could even roll with the infamous Superman’s glasses joke when Steve along with Romanoff pose as an engaged couple in an Apple store evading agents. Stan Lee’s cameo as a Smithsonian security guard was priceless when Rogers goes back to the classic uniform.

Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation) had better material to work that convinced me she’s Nadine Roman plus her hairstyle worked unlike the others. Glad there wasn’t any romance between them considering she tries setting him up with Peggy’s granddaughter. Hopefully they’re not going to stall Steve/Sharon‘s relationship like they’ve been teasing us with Thor/Sif. No words can be said about Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) as Nick Fury other then awesome. Cobie Smulder’s Maria Hill continues to be a much more likable character then her annoying comic/animated counterpart.

The action is terrific especially at the beginning with Batroc the Leaper (Georges St-Pierre). It succumbs to the “in order to see it has to be viewed on a smaller screen” syndrome unfortunately. Frank Grillo (Minority Report) miscast as Brock Rumlow, who becomes Crossbones didn’t strike me as the big bruiser-type. His right-hand man, Agent Jack Rollins played by Callan Mulvey (300: The Unnecessary Sequel) was more like Frag. Wasn’t thrilled Senator Stern (Garry Shandling) showed up cause who needs to be reminded about Iron Man 2?

Overall, everything about it from start-to-finish been engaging which is key to a good film.

    Rating: 10

Baron Von Strucker played by Thomas Kretschmann, who looks like Liam Neeson’s cousin managed to get his hands on Loki’s Sceptor containing The Mind Gem which he intends to use on The Twins aka Pietro/Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) setting up for Age of Ultron to which this adversary still hasn’t been foreshadowed at all which even so is going to come out of nowhere for general audiences. Wanda along with Pietro are probably going to be magic-users instead Mutants which in turn will gear up for Phase 3, which introduces actual mysticism into this universe instead of the whole “science that looks like magic” ordeal.

The second after-credits scene might be setting up Barnes picking up the mantle considering Evans has only three more films to go before his contract is up then retiring. Guardians of the Galaxy still looks to be an enjoyable flick despite the fact that it could end up being another dud:

    2013 in Review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

    Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 950 times in 2013. If it were a cable car, it would take about 16 trips to carry that many people.
