Thunder. Thunder. THUNDER. THUNDERCATS, HOOOOO!

Case in point, Thundercats, a movie in a whole lot of rumor cycling, but one the 80’s geek fan base wants to see made with a frothing, hungry fervor. Despite some initial reactions to furries from an alien planet crashing on another alien planet, and the abominable names, the premise is pretty cool. A child monarch is sent off his throne world just before it’s destroyed. A small cadre of loyal and capable protectors go with him, along with a strange talking pet/best friend. On their journey, the child, Lion-O, ages in a malfunction of suspended animation, yet retains the mind of a child. They crash on this unintended world where they try and reestablish themselves, challenged and plagued by all sorts of anthropomorphic mutants. The planet’s leader is none other than an alien pharaoh of unspeakable magic power known as Mum-Ra the Everliving (best name in the show). Mum-Ra wants Cat technology to leave the planet and spread his pyramid-focused dark power to other worlds so he might create a dynasty. Awesome fighting ensues.
So without further adieu, here is the fan live-action trailer:
And here’s the animated intro (Eastern animators are the best):
Of course none of the actors, save maybe the Farscape chick and poor Vin Diesel, would touch this movie. Still, it’d be pretty cool if Brad did decide to end his career for this property, and took Angelina with him as Cheetarah.
