Dredd Remade

According to 2000 AD Forums, that Mr. “I Am The Law!” is also getting another shot at superstardom.
Together with DNA Films, the movie production company behind such great sci-fi movies such as Sunshine and 28 Weeks Later, Judge Dredd will go into production in 2009.
Jason Kingsley, CEO and Creative Director said, ‘We can’t give away too
many details at this point, but we’re looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen.’
Funny who these films of the nineties are getting retooled. I have little hope from the studio that produced a bad sequel to a superior horror film. I’ll be having a Punisher expectation for just straight forward violence and gore.

What is the point? It’s a long-dead franchise that had it’s peak in the 90’s. The first movie flopped, there are no new comics for it, it just all around boggles my mind why they would choose to resurrect this property. That said, I like Judge Dredd, I just wonder if we couldn’t spend money and resources in a different post-apocalyptic setting for a change.
