Just Jared has provided first looks at Robert Downey Jr. as the first detective of literature.
Initially, this looks like Dr. Watson then his partner in crime, so judging from the images this is a prequel of his first case that earns him the title.
Guy Ritchie is directing. But from the previews I’ve seen of Rockarolla, it similar in style and tone to his previous films like Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. So it would seem, Ritchie is planing on making an action / thriller in this adaptation then a crime / film noir
From Production Weekly to Newsarama, the official plot synopsis for Captain America or First Avenger whatever you want to call it is out.
“Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy’s earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment … Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the ‘Super-Soldier Serum’ and bombarded by ‘vita-rays.’ Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later, he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and and battle savvy, Captain America has continued his war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and leader of the Avengers.”
Glad that he learns from training in the military, not just one injection and BOOM! He’s instantly experienced soldier. No mention of Red Skull (assuming he’s the main villain) cause I don’t see him showing up in Avengers.
In Ultaverse, they revealed that Fury has a sample of the serum as well, so does this mean we’ll see Samuel in WW2 or do we have to wait till the end of the movie, where Rogers has thawed out and recruited for The Initiative? Either way, I’m all for Cap.
I read an issue of Nightwing during The Resurrection of Ra’s Al Ghul storyline, but that was it. So I’ve pick up the latest one. The outline sounded interesting, Grayson vs his mentor’s greatest foes.
First off, affected by Scarecrow’s fear gas, the protector of Blüdhaven, as another commenter said, the fight sequences were brutal, although the Mr. Freeze encounter was bad ass. I have to call into question, did he actually kill Freeze or was that a figment of his imagination? Cause he just crossed the line right there. Probably not. The highlight is, as always The Joker beating Dick, Jason Todd style with his trademark murder weapon.
Two-Face looking like Aaron Eckart was nice, but his hair changed midway in the comic. Little inconsistency there. Freeze’s dialouge didn’t make the scene better, cause it reminded me almost of Schwarzenegger’s bad ice puns. Sucks what they did to the character in the comics of recent years.
Carol’s death did have some impact. “Fight, you Bitch!” from The Abyss came to mind. But I haven’t been following the books to know the character. But Harvey’s personalities are crazy as ever. An okay read.
Since this week’s show is the Iron Man commentary, here’s the review for last night’s Smallville.
Initially, it was an alright episode for being an Oliver Queen centric, but it’s subplot still involved Clark. The origin story shown on screen in segments was alright, him finding out Lionel killed his parents at the end connects the dots to “Traveler” and “Veritas” well.
Brainiac’s effect starts to gear up Chloe. Glad Clark picked up on it right away, as opposed to him finding out later in the season. What I think the outcome of Chloe’s death will be, Lois will shut Clark out, turn into the full independent career woman, and the Clark / Jimmy friendship will start to form.
Ollie called the boss of The Planet and Luthorcorp in his unconscious state, Mercy. Because (let’s face the fact) her characteristics were definitely more Mercy Graves then Ms. Tessmacher.
Davis mingling with Chloe, implies more that he’s gathering up information to report back to Mercy for taps. Her delivering the killing blow was awesome, with the evidence being destroyed. Just like a Luthor.I was a bit confused on her being there in the flashbacks because it seemed to me that she was manipulating Oliver, implying that she orchestrated the kidnapping or had her own agenda, but then it looked like she didn’t.
Lois is still a bit of brat by basically saying Ollie’s not the perfect hero or “filled the deal” as she put it (well so is the man your destined to be with, sister), ease off. If she is going to keep showing up whenever Oliver has entered the fray in the remainder of the season, this relationship has been dragged on too long (Clana not withstanding).
No links to The Oliver Queen Cronicles as I thought, so there’s a plothole. Mercy’s not that much of an expert fighter in this incarnation. Like last week’s episode, the climax was bad. There’s no way that heavy piece of machinary on the phone poles could possilbly swing down in the accurate position to knock the pirate out. A blanent stage rig.
Ollie ripping into Clark about being a coward was a bit of a stretch, but I take as the booze talking. BIG CONTINUITY ERROR. After the pirate shoots the hostage in the head, the next time we go back to the flashback, the bullet wound is on her stomach. What the hell?
Rating: 6 1/2
But I’ve got a feeling the show is starting drop again. Next week looks very interesting, Maxima, the future Warrior Queen comes to town.
At the end of the preview, it looked like she punched Lois’ head off her neck.

Blah, This movie looks cheap. This makes the first Mortal Kombat look like it had even more of a bigger budget.
I’ve seen the photos of James Marsters as Piccolo, I understand why it deviated but it looks like a vampire out of Buffy or Supernatural, no small semblence to the anime.
According to Variety, that the producers of Smallville and Supernatural are attempting to start a new DC series.
“The Graysons” is seen as a potential replacement for “Smallville” should that show end its run this season, which has been speculated. Should
“Smallville” return next year, “The Graysons” might also make a strong companion piece.
In the one-hour “Graysons,” which will be set in modern times, young DJ will face challenges involving first loves, young rivals and his family as he grows up. Souders and Peterson have come up with an original take on the character.
My question is, why can’t they just call it Grayson (like the fan film)? This sounds like a sitcom, like Two and a Half Men or something. People are still interested to see a pre-Batman show, and as I’ve said before, Smallville needs to conclude.
So overall, I liked the Aquaman pilot (which this show will end up), I’ll give it a shot. Maybe it’ll firmly show audiences that there’s more to The Dark Knight’s partner then “Holy Cats”.
According to Variety, actor / director, Kenneth Branagh is in talks to replace Matthew Vaughn at the chair to guide The Son of Odin in his first feature film.
“Thor” comicbook adaptation, penned by Mark Protosevich, follows disabled medical student Donald Blake, who has an alter ego as the hammer-wielding Norse god Thor.
Marvel will self-finance the film via its $500 million credit facility through Merrill Lynch. Marvel used that coin to fund both “Iron Man” and “The Incredible Hulk” and will do the same
for the “Iron Man” sequel that has director Favreau and star Robert Downey Jr. returning.
I found out today, Branagh also directed the 1994 adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel aswell.
Now there is some bit of skeptism, cause he likes to star in his movies, having seen a recent profiled picture of him, I agree he’s too old to play either Donald Blake or his alter ego. Another concern that some people might have is the change in the draft of the human aspect, but in case with Marvel’s first film, Iron Man was well written and Robert Downey Jr. was great in handling Tony Stark’s nature.
I’m for it, he did a great job with Victor’s story, he can portray the grand and gritty aspects of Asgardian mythology very well in my book.
Were not changing our name, but our new page is up a running. Still making a few adjustments like subscription feed, etc.
The original features are still here, like BZGTV, the News Archive, and our Batman Begins commentary, soon Iron Man once the DVD comes out. The end of our second year is off in the distance but we still have stuff in store for 2008 before 2009. Peace.
