    Roulette on Smallville

Kryptonsite confirms another DC character that will be appearing in a future episode this season is the head of Metabrawl herself.

DC Comics character “Roulette” appears in this episode, and a dollar says that’s
also the episode title, but we cannot confirm that last part.

This means the illegal cage fighting that was introduced in “Combat” of S6 will come back to the forefront like Level 3 turning into 33.1.

Like Plastique, she’s another villian I only knew from the DCAU, but from the comics that I do know is she’s the grandaughter of the first Mr. Terrific. Who could possibly be a guest star for Geoff John’s Justice Society episode that was announced at the panel. To which I’m really looking forward to.

The casting director better hire an actress that’s above Jessica Parker Kennedy’s dry performances to play this particular character. Of course she must have some kind of snake tattoo on her body and her familar scarlet attire. Otherwise it’ll just become another drastic change from the source material like how they chose to display Parasite’s powers towards the end of “Injustice” where he was pulling a Shang Tsung.

    Season 9 Footage

The responses I’ve read from the Smallville panel weren’t very postive. The audience asked the same generic questions like Tom Welling and Allison Mack’s auditions. Nothing specific, like about the problems with that disgrace of a finale.

But there were exceptions, that Lex isn’t really dead and the preview that’s managed to pop up.

The suit is fine by me, at least it’s another huge step forward into becoming Superman like working at The Daily Planet was. Don’t mind the black, it’s like the Kryptonian garb Jor-El wore in Superman: The Movie during General Zod’s trial. The S shield similar to Raya’s crystal is a nice touch. Speaking of that, I figure the Lois and Clark sex scene is a dream or fragments of memory she has left from her little trip in the future.

Callum Blue’s performance as young Zod is a little too over the top. Still dislike this Mercy connection he will have, which will turn into another shipper in the second half of the season like the Chloe/Davis tabacle.

    Jonah Hex Footage Description

The preview that was shown at yesterday’s panel. Here the highlights.

We’re told about Jonah Hex as we see him and someone asks how he got his
scar. He says that he’s never told anyone the story, though we see a flash of
him being branded. A voice tells us that, since then, he’s walked with one foot
in life and one foot in death. There’s a magical/vooddoo quality to some of the
shots, including a live crow crawling out of Hex’s mouth.

    There’s a lot
of Megan Fox. One guy grabs her and says, “I own you.” She knocks him down and
says, “Never was much for being owned.” We see her doing a lot of fighting and
there’s a shot of her from behind, nude with Hex in bed.

Post-title, there’s a scene of another guy asking what happened to his
face. Hex says, “I cut myself shaving,” shoves an axe in his head and says,
    “What happened to yours?”

I’m watching G4’s live coverage as I’m writing this post and later on tonight, I’ll be attending the Watchmen BD-Live event with Zack Synder.

On the Megan Fox issue. She’s too young to be playing a whore for the scared faced bountyhunter. Despite that, everything else about the movie sounds awesome. Especially with the last bit about with the axe. This better a hard R, not another victim of the PG-13 trend. Because if that happens, my enthusiasm will drop severely.

    Tom Welling at Comic Con

Here comes the news from this weekend’s San Diego convention. The leading actor is confirmed by The CW to show up for tomorrow’s panel.

Calling all “Smallville” fans! Series star and co-executive producer Tom Welling will make his first-ever appearance at the world’s greatest pop culture convention, Comic-Con International: San Diego, this Sunday, July 26.

A big announcement is supposed to happen aswell. Rumors have been circulating about a Metropolis DTV movie to some conceptual art of a super-suit Clark might be wearing this year.

I’m all for a film to end the show, but I take issue with the idea of an outfit on the show at this point, if that ends up being true. He moves forward with his alter ego because of “Henry’s” death and his friends screwed him over is just wrong on every level. For god’s sake, this isn’t Batman.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they did this just for the buzz and by the time it airs, they drop it halfway through or at the end like they did to Doomsday.

From what producer, Brian Peterson said about this “Major” Zod story arc, sounds downright terrible. Maybe Tom being the executive might be the ray of sunshine through the storm cloud that Smallville really needs right now.

    DC Film Update

THR gives us an insight as to what’s going on with the other properties in the works. Here the highlights.

    — “The Losers,” an action-adventure drama starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana and Chris Evans, begins principal photography this week in Puerto Rico.

I’m not familar with this group having only seen them referenced in the New Frontier animated film. With Zoe and Evans on the project, it’s now gotten my attention.

    — “Jonah Hex,” a supernatural Western starring Josh Brolin, Megan Fox and John Malkovich, recently wrapped production in Louisiana.

Having seen the episode of B:TAS, Showdown and JLU’s One and Future Thing first part, Jonah is such a bad ass, I can’t wait for Josh’s portrayal of the character on screen. Plus I’m a sucker of the cross-genre.

    — Fox has picked up the TV series “Human Target,” starring Mark Valley, for the fall.

I’ll check out the pilot for the main reason it’s a comic book property not airing on The CW.

This past fall, Warners quietly hired three of DC’s biggest writers — Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison and Marv Wolfman — to act as consultants and writers for it’s superhero line of movies. The move involved taking back the reins on projects being handled by such producers as Charles Roven (“The Flash”) and Akiva Goldsman (“Teen Titans”).

Some agents and scribes grumbled about being forced to work with the consultants, never mind that Johns started his career as a assistant to “Superman” director Richard Donner or that Wolfman has
worked in animation since the 1980s.

Good that Johns is onboard, Morrison not so much. The last paragraph pretty much says the Hollywood people are crying like babies because they must work in hand in hand with the people that make their big bucks for them. How ungrateful is that?

“Things I’d Like to See in Season 9” Reply

Last year, I responsed to Graig of Kryptonsite‘s column about the ten things he and we the audience wanted to see from this past season. Figured to put my thoughts to his with this upcoming year. So here the highlights.

    10. Martha Kent

Yes, she was on my list last year, but my wishes to have her on are just as valid now. I feel that Jonathan Kent taught Clark about right and wrong but Martha, more than anyone, teaches Clark about the human heart. The fact that she was played by someone as talented as Annette O’Toole helped. To go two seasons now with only a mention every 5 episodes or so is disappointing, especially as Martha is and always has been a very important part of the history of Clark Kent and Superman. (On that same note… does anyone have parents anymore? Gabe Sullivan, The General… let’s see them already!)

One of things that annoyed the hell out of me in the finale was Chloe’s line to Clark in The Clocktower about his humanity. Which Martha already talk to him about back in S6, after his fight with Titan. Allison Mack’s character shouldn’t be in the position of Clark’s moral compass.

I understand why Sam Lane isn’t around because of his job. I still think Gabe is dead, so Chloe has been supported by the Lane family this whole time.

    9. Heroes Being Heroes

Please, no drunk Ollie, no Chloe dragging dead bodies into the dumpster, no Lois making up stories, no Justice League that will betray Clark, and no Clark who wouldn’t turn his back on his friends who need
him. Batman is supposed to be the broody one, Iron Man is the drunk. Superman is supposed to be the greatest hero of all, and even if he’s not totally “there” yet, he should at the very least start behaving heroically by now. It’s been 9 years.

Right on the ball. The Man of Steel is supposed to be the symbol of hope and light through the valley of darkness, not the other way around. But that just proves The CW’s rule for non stop teen angst and on/off again romance.

    7. Don’t tease us with Lex unless Michael Rosenbaum is going to come back.

I admit it: I loved the shot at the end of “Bride” where it seems Lex was watching everything. But it may have been too soon, considering we never actually saw Lex. By the time “Requiem” came along, it might have been better to not do Lex at all rather than give us “Darth Lex” which did nothing more than to
remind us that, yes, Michael is gone and we as fans miss him a lot. With that said, if Michael will finally come back, then by all means, tease away.

I didn’t mind Darth Luthor too much, it was the scheme that I despised because of the events in those horrible two part episodes. I hold onto the theory that Clark’s enemy we saw get blown up was actually a clone since they’ve established it on the show. So Lex can still be lurking in the shadows somewhere.

Also at the end of “Bride”, he wasn’t covered in blood like he was in “Requiem”. Or that just could be a case of inconsistency on the writers part.

    5. John Jones.

Especially if Martha Kent can’t come back, it’d be great to have John Jones, the Martian Manhunter back in a series regular capacity. Jones has an air of authority to him which I like, and Phil Morris is not only
one of the best actors to guest on the show; he’s also one of Smallville’s biggest supporters. I have a feeling Dr. Emil Hamilton might be stepping in to be the authoritative exposition-giver, and I know he has his fans, but John Jones is much cooler, at least in my opinion.

I really hope his powers come back as soon as possible and starts being active again in the superhero department, aswell as the role of detective which was really cool to see in “Prey” and “Bulletproof”. With Oliver’s character going in a undoable downward spiral, J’onn should be the one to help Clark bring the JLA back together.

Glad the one and only Hamilton was introduced, which makes sense, since his future job is at Star Labs, which is the name of the city Green Arrow patrols.

    3. Bring Back Geoff Johns!

I loved having one of DC Comics’ best writers doing an episode, and I’d love to see him tackling another guest hero. (Booster Gold, perhaps?) Of course, I definitely wouldn’t have a problem with another
Legion appearance, either. Mon-El or Conner Kent – also both recently handled by Johns in the comics – would also be welcome. Or how would Johns write the TV version of Bart? The possibilities are endless.

I wish they’d bring the writers from DC onboard more often, cause despite UDQ’s (Uneccessary Drama Queen) screentime, “Legion” was amazing. Since the heroes of the 31st century showed up, it’s quite possible for the publicity whore to appear and Clark learns from him and vice versa like The Flash.

The second half really left a bad taste in my mouth and this year it’s shaping itself up for another 7th, where little things happen to move along, but the overall story arc becomes entirely pointless to the series as a whole.

    First Look at Black Widow

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly is Iron Man 2 centric. Most notable is the glimpses of Scarlett Johannson as Natasha Romanov.

Adding more flesh and blood to the new movie, Scarlett Johansson joined the cast as Stark’s mysterious new assistant, Natasha, who has an alter ego of her own, Black Widow. That introduction inevitably sparks romantic tension between Stark and former assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), who’s been promoted to CEO of Stark Industries. “The men want it to be, like, ‘Ooh, the girls are fighting over Tony,’ but it’s not as standard as that,” says Paltrow. “There’s a weird male catfight fantasy. Downey agrees. He believes what differentiates the franchise from other superhero series can be summarized as follows: “We’re horny. Not, like, can’t-bring-your-kids horny, but just…horny.”

Spot on. Right down to the famous gauntlets. While Hammer is dealing with the Russian division of The Ten Rings, he hires Natasha to steal Stark’s Iron Man tech for her boss and Whiplash to use against the public superhero.

Superman: World of New Krypton #5

Kal-El and Nar are put to trial in front of the council, in the Richard Donner fashion with General Zod in Jor-El’s place as the prosecutor. Nar is willing to accept the charges against them, but her commander takes full responsiblity.

I’m torn about this issue. We get the trial, but the execution gets the short end of the stick with the charges erased for some holiday? Zod isn’t Black Adam from 52, where he tried really hard to change himself and make the world a better place. It’s the soldier vs scientist metophor where no action, just thinking and talking is considered weak and pathetic to him and conquering is the answer.

In the cliffhanger, there’s assassination or attempt by someone who’s willing to do something by shooting the tryant point blank in the chest with the red solar weapon. This story isn’t picking up speed, I can’t read through seven more comics for the climax of this story. Rather wait till Vol. 2 comes out.
