Punisher ’89

I was talking to Michael Sims on Facebook yesterday about this franchise.
Having seen the Thomas Jane film countless times and the Ray Stevenson one only a few, I watched the first one with Dolph Lundgren last night. Haven’t seen it in a long time, intially it wasn’t bad. Much better then the 90’s Captain America flick. Lundgren does a decent job of playing the different sides to Frank Castle but at one point slips into a Stallone impression with his performance.
It still has problems like the bum sidekick that cracks a rhyme while pleading for him to rescue The Mob’s children. Like Stevenson, decides to give his mission a break. Which we mentioned in our War Zone review, something the character would never do because it’s the major part of his insanity which has gotten lost in these movies that got ridiculous by the last one.

Thomas Jane might have been a little more conservative than the comics, but I think he made the character more digestible and likable to those who never really had interest in the Punishers comics. I like how he protected his make-shift family of weirdos in the film. He was like Batman meets Elvis or something. Lol.
