Superherohype, got the chance to be on set of Hellboy 2: The Golden Army and chat with Doug Jones about not being contacted to play Norrin Radd/The Silver Surfer in the spin off.
“I know as much as you do about that; I wish I knew more,” he answered. “I
suppose they have a writer hired who’s been talking about it at Comic-Con, so
that’s how I heard about him. As far as the timing goes, don’t know. As far as
whether they’re going to come back for me again, I’m contracted for two more,
whether they exercise that contract is up to them. I would like to…”And as far
as providing his own voice for the character in future films after having the
voice dubbed by Laurence Fishburne? “I would like the opportunity,” he
responded.
What we do know is that this episode comes only one week after the episode
“Persona,” which features the return of Brainiac to the mythos!
“The whole thing is not ‘Joker Begins’, because we did not tell how the
Joker became what he is”, says director Christopher Nolan. “During these five
minutes it is shown how the joker of the small crook becomes the most-dreaded
gangster of the city – it is more of a “The Rise of the Joker”
He managed to get time away from the show recently for shooting on Louis
Leterrier’s upcoming movie “The Incredible Hulk,” with Edward Norton, Liv Tyler
and Tim Roth. Burrell plays Doc Samson. The picture is due for release in
June.
Since the story that came out today that Mike Doughtery and Dan Harris are not going to be writing the Superman sequel “Man of Steel”, later on another story came out about Mark Millar, the writer of Marvel’s Ultimate series wants to tacke it.
From Millar’s forum.
As most here know, I have literally hundreds of pages of notes and sketches
just waiting for this opportunity. This would be my dream gig and, as a fan, I
know exactly what this project needs to work. This has to be Superman for the
21st Century, keeping everything we adore, but starting from scratch and making
the kids love it as much as the 30-somethings. I would honestly write this thing
for free.Anyway, my treatment is being polished as we type. Wish me luck. I want
to do that Superman movie we all want to see.UPDATE 10/24/07:
Well, sadly, I’m a Marvel guy and we were surprised to find out that WB couldn’t
hire me for a DC property. They were incredibly nice and superbly apologetic
about it, but when they discussed the matter seriously DC explained just how
associated I am with Marvel Comics at the moment and it’s against company policy
to hire the competition. It’s absolutely nothing personal. I spoke to some
friends at DC and they explained this has happened with a couple of big Marvel
writers in the last couple of years and I absolutely respect that. It’s a
business after all and to have a guy writing Fantastic Four, 1985, Kick-Ass and
another super-big project for Steve McNiven this year which would be mentioned
in every article about a Superman movie is not only an insult to their own
writers, but makes bad business sense. I have nothing but respect for the DC
high-ups and, though obviously disappointed, can absolutely appreciate their
position. They’re the custodians of these properties and they obviously know
what they’re doing. So no Millar-penned Superman movie at this stage, I’m afraid.
That situation may change, of course. As a Warner chum said to me last night,
the last Superman movie had a number of starts and stops and who knows what will
happen over the next couple of years, especially after my Marvel contract
expires. In the meantime, I’m keeping my 200 pages of notes and sketches on a
slow boil, just in case. As for the next movie, I wish whoever does land this
gig nothing but the best of luck. I wanted to bring my vision to the screen out
of nothing but pure love and hope to be as thrilled as everyone else. They’re
talking to a couple of guys with a better screen-writing track record and, like
the rest of you, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that this sequel to Bryan’s first
picture all works out great.
While talking with David Kirschner this weekend, one of the producers of
the upcoming John Cusack film Martian Child, he revealed that they are working
on another Child’s Play sequel, but it would instead be a remake of the first
Child’s Play.First things first, David Kirschner is the producer behind all
five of the currently released Child’s Play movies. He produced the first one
and even the latest one, Seed of Chucky. Secondly, he also said that the same
screenwriter who came up with the original Chucky story, Don Mancini, and who
wrote all five of them is working on this one as well.News out of this
past weekend’s International Horror & Sci-Fi Film Festival at the Harkins
Centerpoint Theatre in Tempe-Linda Blair, there to introduce ‘THE EXORCIST,’
hinted that a remake of the film is in the works….and judging by the look on her
face, she’s not happy about it.
Nick Cassevettes, is thinking about directing Captain America for Marvel
Studios and Paramount Pictures. Cassevettes (The Notebook) was
previously attached to helm Iron Man before Jon Favreau took over.I’m okay with it as long as they use the script by David Slade who wrote The Bourne movies.
