    Crank 2 Red Band Trailer

It’s gone the way of Shoot ‘Em Up with over the top action, nudity, and violence. Which isn’t bad, but only for a one time experience in my opinion. The groundwork of the first are maintained, Chev Chelios is up against the Chinese this time around.

    Paramount – 2009

Joblo released a list of upcoming films for this year. Here the highlights.

    1. Hotel Dogs – January 16th

Have no interest in seeing, but wanted to make a point. Studios are laughing all the way to the bank with the trend of cayennes with a stupid direct to DVD Beethoven sequel, the chihuahua movie, and the Owen Wilson flick, I can’t stand it.

    2. Defiance – January 16th

I was looking forward to Valkyrie. During that time, a fact was brought up to me. You have an American, Tom Cruise and a group British actors with Terrence Stamp as Nazis, there’s no suspension of disbelief there.

After seeing the preview for this Daniel Graig period piece a few times, this looks more legit. Graig’s Scottish accent is stellar from the trailer alone. Even though Liev Schreiber has actor chemistry with Graig as his friend in arms, but I just don’t see it with Hugh Jackman in Wolverine.

    3. Monsters & Aliens – March 27th

The last few animated films like Meet The Robinsons and Kung Fu Panda were really good, this one is interesting in concept.

Basically a 50’s scifi comedy where aliens are invading Earth and the government recuits a giant mutant, The Gill Man, Blob, a mad scientist cockroach, and The 50 Foot Woman to save the world. Looks funny.

    4. The Soloist – April 29th

While it has Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. The story is similar to films like Resurrecting The Champ with Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Harnett, and The Fisher King starring Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams.

    5. Star Trek – May 8th

Antisapating a reboot from this franchise. When the second trailer came out, I was stoked. Definitely going opening day at the IMAX for the big space battle experience. I hope in a Casino Royale fashion, the classic theme blasts as the crew boldly goes where no one has gone before.

    6. Imagine That – June 12th

Who gives a shit about Eddie Murphy anymore? Seriously, he makes a flop after flop, shit movie after shit movie. The premise is Adam Sandler’s joke Bedtime Story. Another case of two movies with the exact same theme.

    7. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – June 26th

Since the first one has came and went, I haven’t been eager to watch it again on DVD. I guess the amount of screentime the humans had which was alot. Just hope that Australian actress isn’t there cause she was overdramatic and her accent didn’t help much either.

From the released images of the battle in Egypt, they gonna explore more how Earth and Cybertron are linked like Krypton is related on Smallville.

    7. G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra – August 17th

With Stephen Sommers at the helm and the bad news report on the teaser trailer, the Special Forces’ first live action feature is setting itself up to be mediocre.

    Watchmen Postponed Indefinitely?

Filming wrapped, effects added, marketing campaign entering full swing, comic re-released, merchandise abound, Watchmen was ready and rearing to go.

And just when the fan base was gearing up this March for what Kevin Smith called “Fucking astounding”, everything went to hell. COURTS RULED WARNER BROTHERS DOESN’T OWN THE RIGHTS! Yes, my friends, in a shocking court decision, the judge favored Fox Studios in a custody battle with Warner. Now as I understand it, there had already been some claims battles between WB and Paramount, but the giants came to an agreement where in WB and Legendary would make the film and Paramount distribute. Well now it seems all three studios are shafted as Fox claims the intellectual property. However, they have no claims to the movie itself, since that was all funded on WB’s buck.

So what happens now? Fox can try and buy the property and sell it on their own (which they would have to pay quite a bit considering all the publicity and what not WB and Legendary put in, not to mention footing the bill for the production itself). More likely, Fox will strike a deal with WB, Legendary and Paramount to accidentally make the first 4-way studio venture in history hehe. Or just as likely, Watchmen will be held up indefinitely and will never see the light of day, destined to be leaked online by some vengeful employee and enjoyed on OVGuide.

On the bright side, at least this is one controversy Alan Moore won’t be dragged into. Glycon help us…

    Thunder. Thunder. THUNDER. THUNDERCATS, HOOOOO!

So usually I’m not a fan of fan-made trailers. You can pick out the movies easily and I just can’t suspend my movie knowledge enough to enjoy them. That said, with a little Adobe Aftereffects and Final Cut magic, people can make respectable What If’s.

Case in point, Thundercats, a movie in a whole lot of rumor cycling, but one the 80’s geek fan base wants to see made with a frothing, hungry fervor. Despite some initial reactions to furries from an alien planet crashing on another alien planet, and the abominable names, the premise is pretty cool. A child monarch is sent off his throne world just before it’s destroyed. A small cadre of loyal and capable protectors go with him, along with a strange talking pet/best friend. On their journey, the child, Lion-O, ages in a malfunction of suspended animation, yet retains the mind of a child. They crash on this unintended world where they try and reestablish themselves, challenged and plagued by all sorts of anthropomorphic mutants. The planet’s leader is none other than an alien pharaoh of unspeakable magic power known as Mum-Ra the Everliving (best name in the show). Mum-Ra wants Cat technology to leave the planet and spread his pyramid-focused dark power to other worlds so he might create a dynasty. Awesome fighting ensues.

So without further adieu, here is the fan live-action trailer:

And here’s the animated intro (Eastern animators are the best):

Of course none of the actors, save maybe the Farscape chick and poor Vin Diesel, would touch this movie. Still, it’d be pretty cool if Brad did decide to end his career for this property, and took Angelina with him as Cheetarah.

    Howlings for 2009

From THR, next year is Moon of the Wolf.

2009 is shaping up to be a big year for werewolves with the release of the Benicio del Toro-starring remake of “The Wolfman” and the “Twilight” sequel “New Moon”.

There’s also a TV series in the works, I’m not kidding, called Bitches by one of the writers behind the Superman trainwreck, Mike Dougherty. That title sounds promising.

Didn’t bother with Twilight, cause it was another kids book joining the trend of Harry Potter’s success. The Wolfman is the only one out of the three in the coming year, I’m interested in seeing.

In Twilight’s defense, it’s more an angsty teenage drama versus straight up kids stuff like the first Harry Potter. You got to admit, too, that the latest Potter movies are hardly little kid friendly. Murder, cults, political intrigue, I rather like them. And Ralph Fiennes(sp?) acting as Voldemort is psychotic and scary.

    Poll Deadline

Were reaching the end of the year, so this is the final month to place your votes. So far I’m in the lead of being The Better Host. So try to defend Rob, if you can (LOL).

    Dredd Remade

According to 2000 AD Forums, that Mr. “I Am The Law!” is also getting another shot at superstardom.

Together with DNA Films, the movie production company behind such great sci-fi movies such as Sunshine and 28 Weeks Later, Judge Dredd will go into production in 2009.

Jason Kingsley, CEO and Creative Director said, ‘We can’t give away too
many details at this point, but we’re looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen.’

Funny who these films of the nineties are getting retooled. I have little hope from the studio that produced a bad sequel to a superior horror film. I’ll be having a Punisher expectation for just straight forward violence and gore.

What is the point? It’s a long-dead franchise that had it’s peak in the 90’s. The first movie flopped, there are no new comics for it, it just all around boggles my mind why they would choose to resurrect this property. That said, I like Judge Dredd, I just wonder if we couldn’t spend money and resources in a different post-apocalyptic setting for a change.

    Tim Robbins as Howard Stark?

This rumor has popped up on Latino Review.

Tim Robbins is going to be playing Howard Stark in an important flashback sequence that is going to set up The Avengers and Captain America films. Jon [Favreau] wanted to get a good actor because he didn’t think the guy who played Howard in the last film could carry such an important scene.

Another is Hawkeye appearing and Black Widow has been brought up once again. Initially, I find this an odd casting, cause this is a different type of film for Robbins. Most I’ve seen him in, are comedies and dramas. But to be fair, Howard in the last film had no lines (he just stared at you), so maybe Robbins can equal Robert Downey Jr’s peformance.

I think there’s only gonna be one Cap film, unless they have more stories in WWII they want to tell or it’s a big success as the first Iron Man.

    Wolverine Trailer

The tone is right. Nice James Howlett reference in the beginning, but this preview told the whole story. That Sabertooth was the one that killed his father and possibly murders his love interest.

By the time of X-Men, Gambit would be older. It seems that what might hurt this film is useage of too many characters. Like the producers are trying to cram every single person that didn’t appear in the previous franchise.

    Phantom Reboot in the Future?

The Associated Press says that The Ghost Who Walks is getting another film treatment.

The latest adaptation, which is expected to cost $87 million, will focus on “the Father/Son relationship, and what it means to be The Phantom,” scriptwriter Tim Boyle said in a statement. “The film will be set in the present day and will deal with the concept of destiny.”

This was another childhood favorite, but Kabai Sengh aka Shang Tsung as The Great Kabai Sengh was the better villain then the over the top tycoon, Xander Drax (played by Treat Williams). It also showcased (even though she played a femme fatale that went good for some unknown reason) Catherine Zeta Jones’ capability to play Wonder Woman (if I haven’t said before) was another missed opportunity (like some many others).

The story sounds decent. An aspect of the character that fascinated me were the descendents was underused in the original, which carried into the Phantom 2040 cartoon series. So I’ll keep an eye on this as it develops.
