    Harnett for Loki?

With the rumbling of casting Thor, IESB.net is reporting Josh is in talks with Brannagh to play The God Mischief.

Word is Josh and his camp are really interested because he has never played a villain before and after Heath Ledger’s Oscar win for the latest comic book villain, Hartnett is intrigued by the character.

Hartnett standing at 6 foot 3 inches would be a great adversary to Alex’s 6 foot 4 inch frame.

On my Green Lantern post, I said he’s a hit and miss and I still stand by that. Inspired by Ledger looks like another good sign for the future comic book films. But then again it could turn into another trend for actors to win Oscars. Like when Brokeback Mountain started the gay trend.

Batman: Battle for The Cowl #1

The big event from DC has arrived. At first the visual storytelling threw me off in the beginning at first where Tim Drake supposedly gets shot. But I realized it was displaying his inner monologue about “Flight Hysteria”.

Dick Grayson shuts everyone out as he struggles whether or not to put on the costume. But Drake says they have to do something before a mysterious wannabe who apprehended some clowns during a robbery destroys Bruce Wayne’s reputation. Resulting in Drake donning the Neal Adams era uniform to pursue the pretender on his own with Oracle’s group, Network being occupied with keeping Gotham under control.

In subplots, Black Mask blows up Arkham ala Bane in Knightfall and forces the inmates to work for him due to chemical implants whichs causes instant death. My problem with that is Poison Ivy is among them aswell. Isn’t she supposed to be immune to toxins and things like that?

Damien takes the Batmobile for a spin with a date, but Barbara puts a stop to it, ejects the girl out of the car, and programs the car to go back to The Cave. But run into Croc and Ivy. Nightwing rescues Talia’s son on a Bat-Glider, but as they flee are shot out the sky by one of Black Mask’s cronies and crash into an abandoned building.

Another Bat-Imitator kills the goons before they could nail Grayson. Whom I’m claiming it to be Jason Todd cause The Red Hood uses guns. Good start for the series. Can’t wait to read the next issue.

An F4 Reboot in the Works

IESB.net have stated that 20th Century Fox plans to go start again with the famous superhero family.

With Daredevil already getting the once over and Planet of the Apes also in the running for a new start with a prequel in the works Fantastic Four is joining the reboot gang.

The franchise is looking to be “less bubble gum” this time round following the Iron Man template, which was a complete success in reviews and box office take but a bit darker when it came to its superhero. Iron Man was in no way as dark as The Dark Knight but was funny, action-y as well as a bit on the serious side.

That’s a good sign because their finally starting to realize that darkness doesn’t equal instant success. But on the bad side, Fox still own the rights.

The studio can’t market or filmmake to save their lives without a director being large and incharge as the two X-Men films showed us. Marvel Studios should be pulling this license away from them and back under their wing.

    Thor Being Cast?

According to Latino Review, Thor director, Kenneth Branagh had met with the actor of the vampire TV series, True Blood. Maybe playing the title role?

I had a first hand eyeball witness of Kenneth Branagh eating dinner at Blairs today accompanied by a young Blonde actor who i recognized from HBO’s awesome miniseries Generation Kill that was on a year or so ago. I had no idea what his name was but I got home today and Googled him, his name is Alexander Skarsgård. I have no idea if he actually is Thor or not, maybe he’s being considered, maybe he and Kenneth are just friends. However, it seems likely he is being considered since he’s a young Blonde actor and seems to fit the description of the character.

He looks the part, obviously. Having watched some clips of him on YouTube, he can act well. If the script has the Shakespearean dialouge, I think he can pull it off. He’s 6’4, a little below The Son of Odin who’s 6’6 in the comics but close enough.

As the supporting cast goes, get some of the actors from 13th Warrior like Vladimir Kulich as The All-Father and Dennis Storhøi for Fandral. I’m sure you can fit the actor from The Incredible Hulk Returns movie, Eric Allan Kramer in somewhere.

    Some Lantern Movie Info

Producer, Donald De Line gives us some insight on what to expect from this adaptation of this character. Here the tibits.

    * They’re definitely going with the Hal Jordan version of Green Lantern.

Right from the start, it was always going to be the test pilot. As casting goes, Josh Harnett. I was impressed by his performance as The Lady Killer in Sin City, not so big of him in 30 Days of Night. He’s basically a hit or miss.

    * A lot of time will be used to establish the character of Hal Jordan, so that audiences can connect with him prior to acquiring the ring that gives him his superpowers.

In the beginning, you have to establish the person before they don the costume, if done well ala Nolan’s first Batman film.

    * Big stakes and big action, but there will be humor in the film (think a similar tone to Iron Man, rather than The Dark Knight).

This franchise deserves to have threats that endangers the world, not just the life of the character unlike Spider-Man. Moments of Hal attempting to use the ring could be just as funny as Stark’s flight attempts.

    * They are in pre-production, they have a production designer and a costume designer and they’re heading to Australia next week to scout locations.

Hopefully some official casting comes out in the upcoming months. The costume should be a mix between the Fantastic Four and X-Men uniforms with some practical besides visual effects for the glowing green energy.

    * They are NOT going for a younger Hal Jordan – they’re looking for someone in their late 20’s/early 30’s.

I knew that Anton Yelchin news wasn’t true. Overall, Donald knows what he’s talking about as opposed to Jon Peters being completely clueless on Superman’s history.

Superman: World of New Krypton #1

I did read a bit of the Brainiac storyline in Action Comics. But stopped after the issue was too short when getting into it, and this was no exception.

I do enjoy this concept which was one of the only good things in the last film. But going back to origins in a Man of Tomorrow story gets a little tiresome. Reuniting with family and enemies by brawling with Non, The Destroyer.

With General Zod leading the military forces once again, Kal-El is suspicious, despite fellow Kryptonians learning to master their powers under a yellow sun. Despite the welcome mats, Alura abides by the old planet’s ways and gives her nephew the ultimatum by placing him in the ranks as Commander.

Decent read, curious to see what happens next as the people of Earth become frightened by this possible danger to national security. Which of course Lex Luthor is gonna use to his advantage, causing a strike that will put the two planets at war, and by the end, this utopia will end like it’s first demise.

    Final Wolverine Preview

I don’t understand why Cyclops is in this movie to begin with? Other then just for more X-Men cameos. I’m still not sold with this film on so many levels. The facts being the previous films in this franchise were about Logan, the media just goes along with it. The new cartoon series being another form of that byist to this overexposed character.

    Final Trek Preview

This felt kind of shallow. Do we really need the “your father was a great man” aspect? Spock still has the rank of lieutenant as he always has. With Kirk’s story of being a rebel to captain made. Is his friend going to have a journey besides the “being human” charade? Despite this growing skepticism, I still can’t wait for this movie.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li Review

The video game movie genre is still dead. To be fair, it wasn’t as bad as the Jean-Claude Van Damme film but still that’s still not saying much. It was unnecessary to go from a superhero film like Batman Begins and then switch to a revenge movie the next hour.

The director was the guy who did Doom. Big surprise. Throwing in a random lesbian dance scene with a Street Fighter rap song in the background for good measure doesn’t help either, it just makes it worse. Heroine films will never be taken seriously with stupid shit like this.

Kristen Kreuk was the wrong choice for the title character. With her bad rap on Smallville aside, this film doesn’t display anything of her acting potential. Only increases her bad luck which is similar to Michael Rosenbaum’s career. But like Kevin Smith said “In Hollywood, you fail upwards.”

I appreciated them avoiding the outlandish elements from the game. But still keeping Vega’s mask and claws in there. But the problem with that, M. Bison is such a departure that even the master of Shadowlaw of the source material would unleash his psycho power on Neal McDonough’s portrayal. Micheal Clarke Duncan as Balrog is reduced to bodyguard status who doesn’t get to pull out his character’s violent behavior till the very end. Chris Klein of American Pie fame as Interpol Agent Nash delivers a very dry generic performance. The only actor that pulled his weight was Robin Shou aka Liu Kang as Master Gen.

The pacing of the fights were off by a long shot. Plus there’s not much fists used mostly guns. Calls this movie “Gun Fighter” not Street Fighter.

They expect a franchise from this? WRONG! This movie will bomb big time. For better interpetations of his brand, watch the animated movies or just stick to playing the game.

    Rating: 3
