“Checkmate” Review

Since the introduction of Amanda Waller and the secret government agency on the show, this was another one of the few episodes that I was actually looking forward to. But it dies faster then the recap.
Before I start ranting about the things that pissed me off so damn much, Phil Morris was the highlight performance as always from his past short comings. Like “Bulletproof” last year, had another activite role.
Susprise writer, John Chisholm and effects department displayed the variety of J’onn J’onzz’s abilites from shape shifting to escape firewalls to reading people’s mind. But I thought the beam of light was wrong. Also he Martian Nerve Pinched a henchmen.
As for The Red Queen mystery, it’s likely Martha Kent. She isn’t returning to town just to check up on her adopted son and his romance with the surgent daughter.
The funniest line came where Pam Grier’s Waller says to Clark…
“You sure are nice to look at. But I like to have my cake and eat it too. Hmph.”
Reminded me of the scene in JLU‘s “Epilouge”, where an elder Waller asks Terry Mcguinss/Batman about how superheroes are always so good looking.
Mercy going down the shaft in her office then cut to her on the streets of Metropolis in cudeo was like a 1960’s Batman & Robin sliding down the poles moment. Again, if Lois isn’t there, it’s not worth it.
I speak for everyone when I say….We’re all sick to death of this “Clark’s Darkest Hour” crap! We’ve been stuck in this phase since the 5th season!
Hell, this is the second time he acts hostial toward Mercy. Even though in Bryne’s Man of Steel, he flew a thug to the top of The Daily Planet globe and bluffed to leave him there to fall off. But still (even though there’s no bullshit Kryptonite evolved.) it’s completely out of character. This is Superman not f##kin Batman. CAN THESE MORONS GET IT THROUGH THEIR THICK SKULLS?
The first words to come out of Dumb Blonde’s mouth in the opening scene is “you should’ve followed protcol.”
In Stewie Griffin’s words from Family Guy, “Who they hell do you think you are?!” Seriously, she doesn’t have the right to back talk anyone?
But it gets even worse after The Dark Citizen of Metropolis saves her pathetic excuse of a life, he starts figuritetly kiss her ass. Plus still being sympathtic in anyway shape or form.
Human Plot Device derserves 10 Grave Knuckles (refering to the POV shot in “Persuasion” where Ms. Graves punches Clustie Evilian’s lights out.) everytime she’s talks. Well at least she gets bitchslapped next week by Kal in “Upgrade”.
Rating: 3 1/2
Next week, Metallo returns and Clark on Red Kryptonite which again is PTB’s way to make the hero look bad and the god awful “friends” good.
