DC Film Update

THR gives us an insight as to what’s going on with the other properties in the works. Here the highlights.

— “The Losers,” an action-adventure drama starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana and Chris Evans, begins principal photography this week in Puerto Rico.

I’m not familar with this group having only seen them referenced in the New Frontier animated film. With Zoe and Evans on the project, it’s now gotten my attention.

— “Jonah Hex,” a supernatural Western starring Josh Brolin, Megan Fox and John Malkovich, recently wrapped production in Louisiana.

Having seen the episode of B:TAS, Showdown and JLU’s One and Future Thing first part, Jonah is such a bad ass, I can’t wait for Josh’s portrayal of the character on screen. Plus I’m a sucker of the cross-genre.

— Fox has picked up the TV series “Human Target,” starring Mark Valley, for the fall.

I’ll check out the pilot for the main reason it’s a comic book property not airing on The CW.

This past fall, Warners quietly hired three of DC’s biggest writers — Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison and Marv Wolfman — to act as consultants and writers for it’s superhero line of movies. The move involved taking back the reins on projects being handled by such producers as Charles Roven (“The Flash”) and Akiva Goldsman (“Teen Titans”).

Some agents and scribes grumbled about being forced to work with the consultants, never mind that Johns started his career as a assistant to “Superman” director Richard Donner or that Wolfman has
worked in animation since the 1980s.

Good that Johns is onboard, Morrison not so much. The last paragraph pretty much says the Hollywood people are crying like babies because they must work in hand in hand with the people that make their big bucks for them. How ungrateful is that?
